I was born in California, but I have been a proud Nebraska resident for twelve years. Growing up in a military family, I was used to moving around quite a bit when I was younger, but I consider Nebraska, and specifically Omaha, to be my home. I was proud to choose University of Nebraska at Omaha as the place to pursue my degree and start building my career.
I have always been fascinated by the sciences of biology and chemistry. One of the best gifts I ever received was a small microscope that I was given when I was in middle school. It sparked my interest in examining life up close, reducing it to its smallest components so that the bigger picture could be understood. In high school, I became fascinated with cell biology, physiology, and dissection. For two years in high school, I had the privilege of serving as an outreach director for a local non-profit pediatric cancer organization. This opportunity gave me a unique chance to see the inner workings of oncology treatment and to provide a meaningful support network for the patients that we were connected with. I came to appreciate the incredible impact that a compassionate healthcare provider can have on a community. I entered college knowing that no matter what I end up doing, a career in the health sciences will be fascinating and fulfilling for me. My future goal is to be a passionate and informed health professional while living a meaningful and balanced life.
Outside of classes, I enjoy playing piano and guitar and taking long walks. For the past three years, I have been running my own business teaching piano students of a variety of ages, and this has become a fulfilling and motivating pursuit for me. I also enjoy reading, spending time with family, seeing my cats at home, attending theater productions, and spending time at the library. To me, personal growth is an endless process of discovering the balance between enjoying productivity and taking time to unwind. I am always learning how to better motivate myself, take care of myself, and how to set meaningful goals.
